Still carrying five different certification cards to the job site? You don’t have to anymore!
The NYC DOB Worker Wallet Card combines your DOB-approved training into one scannable card. It’s required for certain construction roles starting July 1, 2025.
If you’re working with scaffolds, rigging, mast climbers, or gas piping, this card is your new must-have on-site.
This guide covers what the card does, who needs it, and how Menotti Enterprise helps you complete it quickly and accurately.
What Is the NYC DOB Worker Wallet Card?
The NYC DOB Worker Wallet Card is a required credential for construction workers handling specialized tasks across NYC job sites.
It pulls all your DOB-recognized training and certifications into one physical card that gets scanned using the Training Connect app.
This single card covers scaffold, rigging, mast climber, and gas piping safety training.
Who Needs This Card?
If you’re doing any of the following, this applies to you:
- Using or operating a supported or suspended scaffold
- Working as a rigging supervisor
- Handling mast climber equipment
- Performing gas piping inspections
As of July 1, 2025, the NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) requires these roles to carry the official Worker Wallet Card for site access.
And no, a screenshot won’t cut it.
You need the physical card on-site. Site supervisors and DOB inspectors use the Training Connect app to scan the QR code and verify your worker qualifications in seconds.
How Does The Card Work?
Once you complete a DOB-approved course, the provider updates your Training Connect profile.
Your valid certification is then tied to your Worker Wallet Card. Any new or renewed courses get added directly to your record. There’s no need to apply for a new card.
This card doesn’t replace the SST card, and it doesn’t expire. But the certifications inside it? Those do. They must be current for your card to pass verification.
NYC DOB Worker Wallet Card vs. SST Card
Don’t confuse the Worker Wallet Card with your SST card. You need both.
The DOB Worker Wallet Card holds your training and certifications for tasks like scaffold use, rigging supervision, and mast climber operations. The SST card proves you’ve completed the Site Safety Training required by Local Law 196.
They serve different purposes and cover different rules.
What Does Each Card Cover?
Worker Wallet Card:
- Required for specialized trades
- Issued after completing DOB-approved courses
- Scanned by supervisors and inspectors using the Training Connect app
- Tied to your active certifications
- Doesn’t expire, but your certifications do
SST Card:
- Required for most construction workers and supervisors on major NYC sites
- Proves completion of 40 or 62 hours of Site Safety Training
- Issued by an approved provider
- Has its own separate requirements
These two cards are linked in your Training Connect profile, but one won’t replace the other. You must carry both on-site or you won’t be able to work.
So, while the Worker Wallet confirms your qualifications for specific trades, the SST card confirms your general safety training.
When Is the Deadline for the Card Renewal?
If your current certification cards were issued before November 1, 2024, you need to replace them with a DOB Worker Wallet Card by July 1, 2025.
After that date, the NYC Department of Buildings will require the new card for site access if you’re doing work that involves scaffold use, rigging, mast climbers, or gas piping.
What Happens If You Miss the Deadline?
If you show up without the new card, you won’t be able to work.
DOB inspectors and site supervisors will scan your card using the Training Connect app. If your profile doesn’t show active, valid certifications through the system, you’re off the site.
Expired training won’t get you through inspection. Neither will screenshots, printouts, or your old cards.
Only the official Worker Wallet, issued by a DOB-approved provider, will be accepted.
How to Get Your NYC DOB Worker Wallet Card
You can’t just walk onto a site and ask for one. You have to earn it.
To get your Worker Wallet Card, you need to complete the correct DOB-approved course tied to your trade. That could mean scaffold safety, rigging, mast climber, or gas piping inspection.
Once you pass, the course provider submits your information through Training Connect and issues your card.
Application Requirements
To start the application, you’ll need:
- A compliant photo (passport-style)
- Valid ID
- Proof of address
- DOB-approved training certificates or cards
Your provider must be able to verify each certification. If it’s not already in Training Connect, they may need to contact the original source.
Most services will cost around $75 to issue the card. This covers the processing, validation, and printing.
Cards usually take up to 14 business days to process, plus shipping.
