NYC DOB Announces Fee Increases for 2022 Construction Code Applications in BIS and DOB NOW
In a recent update, the New York City Department of Buildings (NYC DOB) has announced adjustments to application fees related to the 2022 Construction Codes, affecting filings through both the Buildings Information System (BIS) and DOB NOW. These changes, aimed at aligning fees with current operational costs, impact various types of permits, certificates, and renewals, with adjustments taking effect from August and September 2023.
Starting August 17, 2023, in BIS, and September 1, 2023, in DOB NOW, fees for After Hours Work Variances (AHV) applications have increased. The initial and renewal fees for AHV permits have risen from $100 to $130, while the daily operational fee remains $80. This update is critical for those managing construction schedules that require work outside standard hours, as AHV permits are essential for legally conducting after-hours construction.
On September 1, 2023, additional fee increases took effect within DOB NOW. These changes specifically impact a few common construction filings, each of which saw an increase from $100 to $130. These affected filings include:
- Permit Renewals: Essential for ongoing projects that require extended time.
- Supersede Requests: Used when there’s a need to replace the applicant of record, owner, or a special/progress inspector.
- Initial Certificate of Occupancy Filings: Required for buildings to confirm compliance with city codes and authorize occupancy.
- Temporary Certificate of Occupancy Renewals (with no changes): Applicable to projects requiring an extension for temporary occupancy without modifications.
For crane operations, fees have also been adjusted. As of September 15, 2023, the fees for crane application amendments and crane notice renewals in DOB NOW increased from $100 to $130. Contractors and project managers handling crane operations should account for these changes when budgeting for crane-related filings.
These adjustments reflect NYC DOB’s ongoing commitment to supporting a safe, efficient, and updated building infrastructure system in the city. The department recommends that all building managers, contractors, and project stakeholders familiarize themselves with these updates to avoid unexpected costs or delays in project timelines.
