At Menotti Enterprise LLC, we strive to keep our clients informed about important updates and changes in regulations that could impact their operations. Recently, the Department of Buildings (DOB) issued a service notice that we believe is crucial for our clients and readers to be aware of.
According to the notice, the DOB will start issuing violations in August 2023 for failure to file category 1 elevator test reports for the years 2018-2022. This means that if you have not submitted these reports for the specified years, you could be at risk of receiving a violation.
The violation will remain in effect until civil penalties are waived or paid and current test reports are filed. It’s important to note that the violation will only be dismissed once an accepted current category 1 test report is submitted.
To help you navigate this process, we’ve outlined the steps to search for violations, make payments, and request a civil penalty waiver:
Searching for Violations
- Visit the DOB NOW: Safety portal.
- Navigate to the ‘Inspections’ tab.
- Enter the required information to search for your property.
- Any existing violations will be listed in the search results.
Making Payments
- In the DOB NOW: Safety portal, navigate to the ‘Violations’ tab.
- Select the violation for which you want to make a payment.
- Choose your preferred payment method (eCheck, credit card, PayPal, or Venmo) and follow the prompts to complete the payment.
Requesting a Civil Penalty Waiver
- In the DOB NOW: Safety portal, navigate to the ‘Violations’ tab.
- Select the violation for which you want to request a waiver. See 1 RCNY §103-02 for waiver information.
- Follow the prompts to submit your waiver request.
Please note that in-person and mail-in payments are not accepted.
