NYC DOB Announces Transition to DOB NOW: Licensing for Site Safety Licenses
The New York City Department of Buildings (NYC DOB) recently announced that starting on October 16, 2024, all applications and renewals for Site Safety Coordinator, Site Safety Manager, and Construction Superintendent licenses will be managed online through DOB NOW: Licensing. This change marks a significant shift toward complete digital processing, making it easier for professionals to apply, renew, and update information for these licenses.
With the transition, the NYC DOB will no longer support license applications or renewals through the old BIS Options system after October 16, 2024. Any applications submitted in BIS Options must still be completed there, but all new transactions will only be available in the DOB NOW: Licensing system. This update aims to streamline license management for all involved, offering an accessible platform for current and future licensing needs.
To use DOB NOW, applicants need an NYC—ID account, which can be created on the NYC DOB’s website. The DOB NOW portal provides a central location for all licensing transactions, meaning in-person visits or email requests to the Licensing Unit for renewals, license card issuances, or information changes will no longer be accepted. Instead, license holders can log into DOB NOW, access the Licensing section, and manage all updates directly through the system.
The NYC DOB offers free training sessions to help users adjust to the new platform. These sessions cover the latest digital process and provide step-by-step guides, user manuals, and instructional videos. Those interested can register for training on the DOB NOW Training page, where users will also find other helpful resources to navigate the updated licensing process smoothly.
For any inquiries about DOB NOW: Licensing, the NYC DOB has made the DOB NOW Help Form available online. The Help Form allows users to submit questions and receive guidance specific to their needs, providing additional support as applicants adapt to the new system.
This change reflects NYC DOB’s commitment to improving efficiency and accessibility in licensing for the city’s building industry. With this shift to a digital-first approach, licensees are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the new process to ensure smooth renewals and updates.
