NYC DOB Service Update: In-Person Appointments Limited to Wednesdays
The New York City Department of Buildings (NYC DOB) recently announced a new scheduling guideline for in-person appointments for plan examination job filings. People who require an in-person meeting with a plan examiner in the Bronx, Staten Island, Brooklyn, or Queens borough offices can now only make these appointments on Wednesdays starting in January 2024. The goal of this change is to make operations more efficient and guarantee that examiners are on hand to provide in-person assistance in these boroughs one day a week.
People can schedule appointments using the Appointments and DOB NOW: Build systems, which provide a simple and convenient way for them to select the time and date that works best for them. Although an appointment can be made on any day, only a Wednesday appointment ensures that a plan examiner will be present in person. Therefore, Wednesdays should be set aside for anyone who needs a direct consultation for job filings or plan reviews in order to guarantee in-person assistance. Updates on in-person scheduling options for the Manhattan borough office, the HUB, and energy and site safety plan examinations will be provided in future service notices; this change has no effect on remote options.
There are specific locations for each of the borough offices that are used for face-to-face meetings. 1932 Arthur Avenue, 5th Floor, Bronx, NY 10457 is the address for anyone looking to visit the Bronx Borough Office. 345 Adams Street, 3rd Floor, Brooklyn, NY 11201 is the address of the Brooklyn office. Residents of Staten Island can visit 10 Richmond Terrace, Borough Hall, 2nd & 3rd Floors, Staten Island, NY 10301, while those in Queens can visit the office at 120-55 Queens Boulevard, 1st Floor, Kew Gardens, NY 11424.
In-person consultations play a crucial role in the NYC DOB’s operations, as they allow individuals and businesses to receive specific guidance on their job filings and ensure compliance with building codes. Many in the building industry depend on these interactions to keep projects moving forward, making this streamlined scheduling system highly beneficial for those needing direct examiner support.
To further assist with the transition to Wednesday-only in-person appointments, the NYC DOB has made resources available online. For any additional questions or if further assistance is needed, applicants can submit an inquiry at nyc.gov/dobhelp. This service ensures users have access to support without unnecessary delays, making it easier to stay informed on requirements and processes.
