The NYC Department of Buildings has extended the deadline for submitting your Calendar Year 2024 benchmarking report. Instead of the original May 1 deadline, you now have until June 30, 2025, to file.
This change gives you extra time to submit your property’s energy and water use data without risking penalties. If you haven’t filed yet, this extension can help you avoid a violation.
Why Was The Deadline Moved?
The extension is tied to a change in how reports are submitted. On March 3, 2025, the DOB launched the new LL97 Reporting Portal. This portal is now used for both benchmarking reports and Local Law 97 (LL97) emissions reports.
If you’ve used the old process in the past, this new portal may take some getting used to. The DOB recognized that many building owners need extra time to adjust. That’s why the deadline has moved to the end of June.
What Does This Mean for You?
If your building is covered under the benchmarking law, you must report energy and water use for the 2024 calendar year. The new deadline gives you until June 30, 2025, to do it without a late fee or penalty.
If you already submitted your report, you’re all set. If not, this extension gives you a bit more breathing room.
Extra Time for LL97 Properties
Some buildings must comply with both benchmarking and LL97 emissions reporting. If that applies to you, you may be able to get even more time.
You can request an extension for your LL97 report through the new portal. If approved, your LL97 deadline will move to August 29, 2025. Once that happens, your benchmarking deadline will automatically extend to the same date.
To request the LL97 extension, log in to the portal and submit a ticket. There’s also a filing fee involved, so be ready to pay that when you submit.
Where Can You Get More Information?
If you’re not sure whether your building is subject to benchmarking or LL97, or you have questions about the portal, help is available.
You can visit the official NYC Benchmarking webpage at nyc.gov/LL84. This site explains the current requirements and gives you access to DOB resources and updates.
You can also contact the NYC Sustainability Help Center by email at Help@NYCsustainability.org or by phone at (212) 566-5584. Staff are available Monday through Friday, from 9 am to 5 pm.
Even with the deadline extended, it’s better to submit your report sooner rather than later. The new portal may take some time to learn, especially if you’re used to the old process.
If you need help or aren’t sure what to do next, reach out to the DOB or a consultant who handles benchmarking and LL97 reporting. Waiting until the last minute can cause avoidable issues.
Double-check your records and make sure your building is on track to comply.
